RX DRUG ACCESS PARTNERSHIP

RICHMOND, Virginia, 23229-5104 United States

Mission Statement

Rx Partnership (RxP) increases medication access for the vulnerable in Virginia and strengthens the health safety net. RxP improves access to health care for the medically underserved in the state by providing critical prescription medications for low-income, uninsured patients living at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) that are receiving medical care at one of the thirty-one (31) participating free clinics and community health centers across the state.

About This Cause

RxP’s primary goal is to improve the health and quality of life of uninsured individuals in Virginia through increased access to prescription medication. RxP is the first organization in the nation to use a broker model to provide donated bulk medications to free clinics and is the only organization in Virginia dedicated exclusively to medication access for low-income, uninsured individuals. While there are a number of organizations dedicated to improving access to care for low-income, uninsured individuals in Virginia, no other organization of comparable size has been able to leverage relationships to provide the tremendous amounts of free medication throughout Virginia. RxP’s major achievement has been the provision of more than 1 million prescriptions to over 82,642 patients with a retail value of more than $285.5 million since 2004. This has enabled a tremendous number of uninsured individuals throughout Virginia to have consistent, reliable access to prescription medication. RxP has five main programs: Core Pharmaceutical Program: Through this program, RxP solicits bulk donations of brand-name medication from our 4 major pharmaceutical partners. We then coordinate the distribution of medication to 16 partnering Affiliate Free Clinics throughout Virginia with on-site licensed pharmacies. Access to Medication Program: RxP’s AMP program sources and coordinates the distribution of generic medications to qualified free clinics without an on-site licensed pharmacy (15 across the state). RxP leverages free products as much as possible, but primarily purchases them at reduced prices from a Group Purchasing Organization and through Dispensary of Hope. GPO Program: RxP started a new program in late 2019 to address the growing need for generic medications and currently provides 26 in demand generics in 49 dosage strengths to clinics participating in the Core Pharmaceutical Program. Mail Delivery Program: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, RxP launched a new home delivery medication program in April 2020 that is available to clinics participating in both the Core Pharmaceutical Program as well as the AMP Program. While initially slated as a temporary response to COVID, RxP has officially made this initiative a permanent fixture in our program offerings. Since April 2020, more than 5,000 packages have been distributed through the Mail Delivery Program. Insulin Program: Started in 2020 with an insulin pick-up pilot and expanded to a limited mail delivery phase. Because of the tremendous need for this program, RxP continues to fine tune it with the goal of providing as many individuals with access as possible.
