Mission Statement
Greater Valdosta United Way focuses on long-term solutions to issues in our community. We work toward improving lives by mobilizing our Community Partners to create improvements in community conditions. We strive to move beyond raising funds. We are uniting Community Partners with organizations to identify and address critical issues here in South Georgia.
About This Cause
To achieve Community Impact we work through local agencies, programs, and community partnerships focused on three community priorities. United Way believes that focusing our funding and directing our efforts in these priority areas will make the greatest difference in the lives of people in South Georgia. Through numerous programs and agencies, United Way provides a variety of services that support individuals and families – from infants to seniors. These three priorities are described below. 1. Meeting Basic Needs & Increasing Self-Sufficiency - Helping provide susceptible people with a safety net and providing opportunities so that families and individuals may lead more independent lives and better provide for their own needs. a. Assistance with basic needs (food, shelter, clothing, rent/utilities, etc.) b. Financial Stability (economically stable families, management of family income.) 2. Preparing Children and Youth to Succeed - Providing children and youth with appropriate tools, supports and opportunities to become strong individuals and successful members of our community. (The five essential resources are: caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, effective education and opportunities to help others.) a. Quality out-of-school programs b. Parental involvement/effective parenting c. Positive ongoing relationships with adults 3. Promoting Health, Safety, and Wellness - Improving health status by promoting physical and mental well-being for people of all ages through prevention, education, treatment, and access to affordable care. a. Family/domestic violence and abuse b. Health and safety education c. Activities to improve the physical wellness of all
