Mission Statement
Since 1970 the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild (CDCG) has recognized and promoted artists, encouraged and stimulated creativity, education and appreciation of fine craft to NC residents and visitors alike through it's annual public 3-day event, Carolina Artisan Craft Market. CDCG’s major emphasis is on objects of art and function made primarily from: clay, fiber, glass, leather, metal, mixed media, paper, photography or wood. By supporting the careers of artists who are focusing on innovation and mastery of technique, along with originality of concept and design, CDCG is an important cultural resource for the state of North Carolina. The Carolina Artisan Craft Market is a premier juried exhibit and marketplace for Guild exhibiting artist members, provisional exhibitors and emerging artists. The event annually attracts people from across NC, and beyond, to take part in meeting artists, seeing artist demonstrations and shopping from more than 110 fine craft artists participating.
About This Cause
A non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, the Guild represents over 160 artists juried into the organization based on his or her original work. The craftsmen’s work must reflect a mastery of technique and originality of design. Our members work includes the following media: basketry, clay, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, wood, furniture, printmaking, photography and mixed media. Serving the skilled artisan in this guild’s tradition for more than four decades, the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild has grown to include exhibiting artist members from all over the Southeast and across the U.S. Annually culminating in a Carolina Artisan Craft Market of its members, the Guild honors the skills it takes years to develop, recognizes the depth of knowledge and understanding of materials and celebrates the individuality, uniqueness and innovation expressed by fine craft artists. The Carolina Designer Craftsmen receives no city, county, state or federal grants or funds. It is supported through contributions from individuals and corporations along with the earned revenues through its annual event.
