Mission Statement
Trees Atlanta is a nonprofit community group dedicated to protecting and enhancing Atlanta's urban forest through planting, conservation, and education. Our mission revolves around community forestry, encouraging local residents to take an active role in caring for their trees and neighborhoods.
About This Cause
Trees Atlanta is a nonprofit community group that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest by planting, conserving, and educating. The organization’s work is centered on community forestry and engaging community members in active stewardship of the trees and forests in their neighborhoods. The outcome of having more trees in neighborhoods is improved health and well-being for the people who live, work, and play there, as well as better-protected natural ecosystems. Each year, more than 9,000 volunteers work with Trees Atlanta and local partners to plant new trees, conserve existing forests, and educate the public on the many benefits of trees. Since its founding in 1985, Trees Atlanta has planted over 180,000 trees in communities across metro Atlanta, including the creation of the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum —a linear botanical garden designed to educate the public on the beauty and function of trees in urban spaces. The growing urgency of conserving existing trees is addressed through their forest restoration efforts, which involve removing invasive plant species and repairing native ecosystems in over 1,000 acres of forested areas each year. They advocate for the protection of trees through education and community engagement. Trees Atlanta’s education programming includes a Speaker Series, workshops, online resources, and hands-on training classes for adults, as well as workforce development for youth and young adults. Their environmental educators reach thousands of young learners by going into schools, as well as throughout the summer at Trees Atlanta’s popular Junior TreeKeeper summer camp. Trees Atlanta has received Charity Navigator's top 4-star rating since 2014 and has earned Candid's Platinum Seal for Transparency. Learn how to get involved on our website.
