Mission Statement
WelcomeHealth provides quality medical care, dental care and support services in partnership with other community resources to low-income individuals regardless of their ability to pay. WelcomeHealth provides opportunities for and encourages a spirit of volunteerism and service to the community.
About This Cause
Since 1986, WelcomeHealth has been providing completely free medical and dental care to low-income families who cannot access or afford care elsewhere. Family households may not make more than 200% above federal poverty level in order to qualify for our services. Most patients are uninsured, especially now after the impact of the coronavirus caused them to lose their employment and health benefits. Our clinic is staffed by two full-time directors, two part-time front office staff members, a part-time nurse practitioner, a part-time RN and two part-time dental assistants. The backbone of our organization is our army of 50 professional volunteers, which includes doctors, nurses, a physical therapist, dentists, oral surgeons, dental hygienists, dental assistants, dietitians, a psychologist and an accountant as well as lay volunteers (pre-dental and pre-med students from the University of Arkansas). All help provide care for our patients and support operations. Our providers proudly care for the entire family and often use a holistic approach to care. WelcomeHealth is not funded by the federal government, and we operate solely on donations from individuals, foundations, corporations, special events, churches and civic groups. Many low-income individuals cannot pay for office visits if they are uninsured, but even those who are insured often cannot afford office copays or high deductibles. As a result, their healthcare needs are pushed to the backburner as they prioritize other basic needs of living and caring for their families. Disparities in access to health and dental care frequently occur because of one’s economic status. Those living in poverty often wait to get help until their illness is severe. Some patients seek care at local emergency rooms where they are treated but only for their symptoms. This often results in a bill that they cannot pay. WelcomeHealth wants to be the answer to solving those problems and concerns. By providing our patients a medical home, we ensure continuity of care and offer comfort to those that have serious illnesses. The medical services we provide include primary and preventive care, gynecology, nephrology, pulmonology, neurology, pediatrics, physical therapy, diabetes and nutritional education and mental health. WelcomeHealth is unique, as it is the only health clinic in Northwest Arkansas that does not charge its patients, even on a sliding scale based on income. We are fortunate to have a collaboration with Quest Diagnostics which conducts labs for our uninsured patients free of charge. In addition, many of our volunteer doctors provide follow-up or additional appointments for our patients at their own clinics pro-bono. We also provide urgent and emergency dental care during our evening clinic. Our primary goal is to help low-income families in Northwest Arkansas and the surrounding areas gain access to quality health and dental care regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. We take pride in being a stepping stone to better health and quality of life for those who need us!
