Mission Statement

To put Christian principles into practice through our programs and services for a healthy spirit, body and mind for all.

About This Cause

The Heart of the Valley YMCA (hereafter YMCA) is an inclusive non-profit organization whose mission is to provide programs and services that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The history of our YMCA dates to 1910. At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. We believe that positive, lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That’s why we focus our work in three areas: Youth Development- nurturing the potential of every child and teen. Healthy Living- Improving the nation’s health and well-being. Social Responsibility- Giving back and providing support to our neighbors. We believe that when we devote our full strength to the Y’s Mission and Cause, work in partnership with others, and build on our history of innovation, we can address the most pressing issues of our time unlike any other organization. We believe active and connected families make for active and connected communities. We believe that all people have potential. We believe in a holistic approach to development, promoting healthy spirit, mind and body. We believe that in a diverse world, we are stronger when we are inclusive and our doors are open to all. We believe in honoring our Mission, living our Cause and acting in accordance with our values and placing the greater good above self. Today the YMCA employs 645 individuals, has an annual budget just over $9,000,000 and is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 14 community leaders. The YMCA operates three traditional membership branches, three Early Childhood Learning Centers and Camp Cha-La-Kee Resident and Day Camp, as well a Youth Development Program. The YMCA is chartered for a five-county region of North Alabama which includes, Madison, Morgan, Limestone, Marshall and Jackson counties. In 2022, the YMCA served 37,026 individuals. Our members received scholarships for our programs and services totaling $2,212,374. The YMCA is committed to making sure that all children and families have the opportunity to attend YMCA programs regardless of their ability to pay the full fee.
