Mission Statement: The Mission of Calvary Refuge, Inc. is to provide a safe, faith - based environment for individuals and families while providing the tools to transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency with dignity and pride.
About This Cause
Calvary Refuge, Inc. (CRI) began informally (as a winter emergency shelter) in Clayton County several years before it became a duly registered non-profit corporation in 1985. In September of 1988, (CRI) was recognized by the IRS as a 501 ©3 organization. In 1998, (CRI) opened as a year-round homeless shelter and a transitional housing program at its present location at 4265 Thurman Rd Forest Park, Ga. The mission of (CRI) was adopted in 1998 and is to provide a safe, faith-based environment for individuals and families while providing the tools to transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency with dignity and pride. The emergency shelter program provides safe and secure lodging for those in need of immediate shelter for 21 nights. This program accommodates a total of 103 guests; consist of dorm-style sleeping, 12 private rooms and bathroom facilities for men, women, and children. Clients arrive nightly at 5:45p.m. and depart at 6:30 a.m. (CRI) provides supportive services and referrals to other agencies that offer assistance to clients. Families living in the emergency program are encouraged to apply for the short term transitional housing program. (CRI) operates a short term transitional housing program. The program has 14 private units (58 beds) that house single mothers and fathers with children, as well as, intact families. Each family is required to pay 30% of their total gross adjusted income, as a program participation fee Also; they have access to a full time onsite case manager. (CRI) provides supportive services and referrals to other agencies that offer assistance to client. (CRI) is the only emergency shelter and short term transitional housing program in Clayton County serving men, women and children as well as intact families with children (birth to 17 years of age). Both programs provide temporary housing, nutritious meals, and supportive services designed to build effective employment and life skills.
