Mission Statement
To bring hope, healing, and transformation to individuals with neurobiological challenges. Because every brain is capable of new growth and change (no matter the condition or diagnosis), and the mind, body, and soul will move toward healing if given what is needed, we pursue this change without exception for everyone in need. Through daily, intense, and loving interaction, our one-of-a-kind care program is created for each individual based on their unique challenges and needs.
About This Cause
Jacob’s Ladder was established in 1998, when founder Amy O’Dell wanted to find a path forward for her son, Jacob, when doctors said there were limited treatments for his developmental challenges. Using her clinical background, Amy created a revolutionary methodology known as the Interpersonal Whole-Brain Model of Care (IWBMC ™). Based on the scientific principle of neuroplasticity, the IWBMC harnesses the extraordinary ability of the brain to change no matter the age, diagnosis, or level of functioning. Using this methodology, Jacob’s Ladder has transformed the lives of more than 4,000 individuals struggling with autism, brain injury, genetic disorders, cerebral palsy, emotional, behavioral, and relational disorders, and other brain-based challenges. Jacob's Ladder is located on 17 acres in Roswell, GA, and has a satellite campus in Metro Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood. JL serves more than 400 families and individuals annually and also serves families internationally through its remote services program. Neurobiological challenges are estimated to affect up to 45% of the U.S. population, with even higher statistics globally. Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control indicate that autism prevalence has increased 241% since 2000. Data also indicates that 1 in 44 children have an autism spectrum disorder, and 1 in 6 youth, as well as 1 in 5 adults, experience mental health disorders. There is a strong demand nationwide for intervention and support as individuals and their families encounter long waits for limited services or are unable to find any options in their communities for treatment. The lack of available and effective interventions will cause these numbers to increase. The demand for services at Jacob’s Ladder is currently at an all-time high. In the last two years, more than 1,200 families inquired about enrollment, evaluation, screening, therapeutic services, and/or clinical support. Based on recent statistics, we anticipate this number will continue to grow annually. Our goal is to change the conversation from impossible to possible for those suffering worldwide with brain-based disorders through our model of care. What sets Jacob’s Ladder apart is our Interpersonal Whole-Brain Model of Care® (IWBMC™), which combines the latest neuroscience with an intensive and individualized client approach. The IWBMC™ has transformed the lives of thousands of individuals and families by connecting science and love to deliver outstanding and replicable results backed by 30 years of data. Using the IWBMC™, we conduct a comprehensive neurodevelopmental evaluation incorporating over 1,400 developmental metrics. Our clinicians design highly individualized programs that include targeted therapeutic and educational interventions based on the results. These programs are then implemented daily in 1:1 or small group settings by caring and compassionate providers highly trained in our model of care, ensuring each client receives the specific support they need. This union of science and love is at the heart of our approach, leading to brain growth, healing, and wholeness. From infancy through to adulthood, the IWBMC™ serves the life span of individuals with neurobiological disorders and delays. Our clients range from as young as one year old in our Foundations program to as mature as 57 years of age in our Compass program. Over the last three decades, Jacob’s Ladder and the IWBMC's reputation and success have grown nationally and internationally, with families moving from across the nation to Metro Atlanta to enroll in our programs. This has led to the creation of our remote services program, which provides evaluation and therapeutic services to families regardless of geography. On our main campus in Roswell, GA, Jacob’s Ladder houses four specialized therapeutic educational and rehabilitative environments where we utilize the IWBMC to devise a highly personalized treatment plan with targeted therapeutic and educational interventions delivered by a caring and compassionate provider highly trained in our model of care. Our four main programs are the: • Foundations program for neurodiverse and neurotypical infants and toddlers, • Ladder Program for children and teens with significant mobility, communication, and self-regulation issues, • Hope School, an accredited private school for PreK-12th grade students with emotional, relational, and behavioral disorders, • Compass Program, providing vocational, continuing education and life skills training for older teens and adults. • Community of Care, our remote services program that provides evaluation and therapeutic programming, serving families on five continents. To address the dramatic rise of autism and other neurobiological disorders, Jacob's Ladder began to scale its impact in 2021 by digitizing the IWBMC into a software platform, called AHAVA, that provides access to our methodology regardless of location. Through AHAVA, we can train, educate, and equip providers to evaluate, design, and implement life-changing therapeutic interventions using the IWBMC. In 2023, The Jacob’s Ladder Group was formed to provide multiple platforms and channels to bring the IWBMC to the world, including establishing the Ascend Training Institute and the Pillar Research Institute. With the help of technology and model replication – we can now reach millions of people who need to experience the life-changing results of our model of care.
