About This Cause
Since the year 2000, IT ALL STARTS WITH FOOD – BUT LEADS TO SO MUCH MORE. SERV physically and spiritually feeds people and develops stronger communities worldwide in some of the most remote regions. Hope is brought to the hopeless, disaster relief is provided, a stronger community is built, jobs are created, women are empowered, education is provided, and life is sustained. We help fight against on-going famine, drought, current food shortages, and recent budget cuts for food aid. But we’re just getting started. FOOD: On a global scale, SERV has engineered a dehydrated, fortified lentil blend that is cultivated by sustainable farms in Nairobi, Kenya. At just $0.08 per meal, our reach goes farther than ever before. Each bag of dehydrated food provides 50 meals, and each 8-ounce serving is over 650 calories and can sustain a person for a day. For over 20 years, SERV has distributed over 41(+) million meals in Kenya, Cuba, Venezuela, Cambodia, South Sudan, Uganda, Jordan, Ukraine, and the Dominican Republic. At a local level, SERV hosts monthly pack-outs to assemble 800 to 1000 food boxes that are designed to feed a family of four for a week. We see this as more than just providing a box. We see it as an opportunity to create relationships, share Christ, and build stronger communities wherever we are called to serve. We want to meet people where they are, and we can only do that with your support. Individuals and organizations can sponsor a local family in need for just $35 a month. Each $35 family sponsorship covers the entire cost associated with supplying an amazing food box designed to feed a family of four for a week. Sponsoring a family in the local community allows SERV to attempt to alleviate hunger here at home. SHELTER: Since 2008, SERV has operated the House of Hope orphanage in Lodwar, Kenya, which provides clean water, fresh greenhouse food, safe shelter, and Christian education. As a result of these aids, these children now have a future and hope, whereas before they were starving, suffering from disease, and orphaned by their parents. You can build a lasting relationship with your sponsored child by writing letters to them and communicating with our Donor Relations Manager who works directly with sponsors and helps them connect with their sponsored child. Sponsorship is $55 per month, and you can contact our Donor Relations Department via email at serv@servone.org. Life-changing experiences can also be created through SERV's short-term mission trips to Kenya. Your experience will include distributing food to remote villages, visiting the House of Hope orphanage, and going on safari in Kenya.
