Mission Statement
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
About This Cause
The Greater Tampa Bay Area Council is one of the local councils in western Florida chartered by the Boy Scouts of America. The Council encompasses nine counties and serves more than 10,000 youth in 189 Cub Scout packs, 192 Scouts BSA, 36 Venturing Crews and 5 Sea Scout Ships and 26 Pathfinder Units. In addition to the Lewis Hill, III Service Center, located at 13228 N. Central Ave. in Tampa 33612, we maintain five camp properties: Camp Owen J. Brorein in Odessa, Camp Soule in Clearwater, Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation in Lake Wales, Sand Hill Scout Reservation in Brooksville and Camp Alafia along the Alafia River in Lithia. Cub Scouting - boys and girls aged 5 to 10. A family program that teaches basic life skills, positive social interactions, physical fitness, healthy eating with age appropriate activities that compliment education. Scouts BSA - boys and girls aged 11 to 18. Youth led program with adult supervision, Scouts BSA teaches life skills, cooperation, leadership skills, physical fitness, and some technical skills. Sea Scouts - boys and girls aged 14 to 21. Youth led program with adult advisors. Sea Scouts is advanced leadership training for older teens in the unique environment of sailboat or motor-boat. Venturing - boys and girls ages 14 to 21. A vocational based program that provides an introduction to various careers. Youth have an opportunity to learn from and work with professionals in different career fields. The Greater Tampa Bay Area Council operates under a charter granted by the Boy Scouts of America National Council. The Greater Tampa Bay Area Council is its own entity, incorporated in the State of Florida, and is a registered 501(c)3 corporation with an annual operating budget in excess of $4M. Charitable donations from individuals and companies provide one third of the funds needed for council operations on an annual basis, and this is the single largest source of funding. Funding for annual operations is also provided by Foundations and Grants, United Way Partnerships, Camping Fees charged to outside groups, Investment Earnings, and Product Sales.
