Mission Statement
Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay (JATB) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for young people equipping them with the financial and career skills needed for a successful future. Through our programs, we bridge the gap between classroom learning and the real world, demonstrating how education directly influences career opportunities and earning potential. By fostering financial literacy, career readiness, and leadership skills, we empower students to take control of their future success.
About This Cause
Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay serves 13 counties (Alachua, Citrus, Hillsborough, Highlands, Hernando, Levy, Manatee, Marion, Pinellas, Polk, Pasco, Sarasota, and Sumter). Our Learning experiences lay the foundation for our children's economic success through our building blocks of achievement, delivered intentionally at three critical points in a student's academic career: fifth grade, eighth grade, and high school. For 60 years, JATB has leveraged resources provided by our Board of Directors, business, and education partners, utilizing their leadership and expertise to maximize our impact, drive systemic change, and address the education gap within the public school system. Infusing competencies of collaboration, critical and analytical thinking, cultural agility, communication, creativity, innovation, and self-direction, that are integrated into core learning experiences aligned with our schools’ academics. Fifth graders learn economic concepts, workplace skills, personal and business finances as they run the mini city, JA BizTown, applying these concepts as both workers and consumers to create a thriving community. They build an understanding of government and their roles and responsibilities as citizens and the impact on their business and their personal lives. 8th graders, independence is ignited as they build on their financial knowledge and career path planning at JA Finance Park. They build a budget based on a random life scenario, and through that scenario they see how career and education choices can affect their life. Utilizing a career interest inventory and our JA digital app, students match their skills and interests to high demand careers within the Tampa market and beyond. 3DE high school the final building block that utilizes competency-based case methodology, a holistic and collaborative approach to reengineering the high school experience. This innovative joint venture between JA, industry partners and our schools, brings relevance and authentic connection to real-world complexities. Throughout their four-year learning journey, 3DE students engage with ten case studies, participate in ten case challenges, complete one entrepreneurial project, and one senior consultancy project. The consistent application within the model offers them numerous occasions to recall learned knowledge, rehearse skills in different contexts, and improve their competence based on feedback. The continuity of student practice paired with the continuous feedback loop supports students in developing resilience and a growth mindset. During the 2023-2024 school year, we made significant strides in implementing our Strategic plan: engaging a record number of 5th and 8th grade students in our capstone programs, JA BizTown and JA Finance Park and expanding 3DE high school initiative to nine schools across three counties, in the fall of 2024 this grew to 11 schools in four counties. Our approach will continue to remain fiscally responsible as we grow and expand the 3DE model, ensuring sustainable and impactful progress for our students
