Mission Statement
To prevent homelessness, combat poverty, foster self-sufficiency and restore hope through programs that address the urgent needs of those struggling with the nightmare of homelessness, food insecurity, and desperate financial hard times in Central Florida.
About This Cause
Since our inception in 1971 as a non-profit 501(c)(3), hundreds of thousands of men, women and children have been served and benefited from our programs. Our vision is for homelessness in Central Florida to be rare, brief, and only once in a person’s life if it does occur. To move towards this goal, we have directed our case management team’s decades of experience and their best practices towards solutions-based goals we can achieve annually to keep Orlando area residents in their homes and to move unsheltered adults from the street into housing of their own. We operate the only no-barrier day service centers in Downtown Orlando and Ocoee, with each campus serving as a single location for all the assistance a person experiencing homelessness or poverty needs. Every day, over 500 adults and children will visit one of our locations and receive services that address their immediate needs such as emergency food, clothing, showers, and laundry, as well as more advanced solutions to get them housed, hired, and healthy. Being a no-barrier campus means that guests can visit CSC without worrying about issues such as lack of ID, criminal record, or something as simple as having a pet. For many, CSC is one of the only places where they can find compassion and concrete help. A key example of this is our role as a mailing address for over 700 people experiencing homelessness—enabling them to receive Social Security checks, apply for jobs, and access other services that require a fixed location. We are on the front lines caring for people going through the most difficult and stressful moment of their lives, and we are meeting them right where they are. Our emergency meals program, known for 49 years as Daily Bread, began serving free hot meals in 1975 with the goal that no person in Central Florida should struggle with hunger. From our locations in Downtown Orlando and Ocoee, we serve hot and nutritious meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week to an average of 605 people every day. We are the only such program in Orlando, and for many of our unsheltered guests, Daily Bread is the entry point on our campus to get a hot meal and connect to other on-campus services to help them back to self-sufficiency. Our primary focus as an organization is our housing program, which is split into two major pillars: preventing homelessness for people at imminent risk of eviction and moving people who are currently homeless into permanent housing. In 2024, we set a goal to rescue 1,224 adults and children from homelessness through these programs, and we surpassed this goal by rescuing 1,235 of our struggling neighbors—more than our agency has ever housed in a year. 823 of these people were served through our homeless prevention program, while the remaining 412 were people moved off the streets and into housing. These accomplishments have been made thanks to our strong partnerships, individual donors, and the hardworking team here at CSC, but they are also a stark reminder of the growing need for homeless services in our community. Homelessness in Central Florida has seen a sharp rise over the past few years, with the number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness more than doubling in 2024 as people struggle to keep up with rising costs and stay on top of their bills. As our community continues to face these challenges, we remain committed to evolving and adapting our programs so that our neighbors in need have a safe space with access to services and solutions-based programs that will set them on a path to self-sufficiency.
