Mission Statement

Founded in 1963 by Edgewater High School teacher Dennis Kamrad, Edgewater Crew stands proud as one of the first competitive high school rowing programs established in Florida. Crew is the ultimate team sport, fostering an environment of friendship and trust across socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, with team members literally "in the same boat," working towards common goals. As an extremely physically demanding sport, it provides an outlet for expending energy and building physical fitness, while also connecting students with a positive peer group that mentors, tutors & supports one another. Throughout the years, many have expressed how being part of the team served as a respite from challenging circumstances in their personal lives.

About This Cause

Orlando Rowing Association is a 501, (c)(3) charitable, educational, non-profit corporation established to provide all administrative, financial and logistical support to Edgewater High School's Crew team. Since the sport receives no funding from the school system or from the State, fundraising programs are conducted and donations & grants are solicited to help cover the cost of operations, as well to provide scholarships for student athletes, striving to overcome social & economic challenges, who otherwise would be unable to afford participation. Members of ORA, primarily parents of team members, work 100% on a volunteer basis.
