Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County, as a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International is a part of a global nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God's love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Partnering with our community, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County brings community volunteers, corporate donors, civic organizations and faith groups together to build affordable homes for struggling, low-income families and individuals throughout Pinellas County.
About This Cause
Habitat Pinellas’ program addresses the affordable housing issue by serving qualified homeowner candidates in the 30 – 80 percent area median income range. Not a government or a giveaway program, homeowner candidates work to build their home and the homes of others amassing 350-450 hours of “sweat equity” in partnership with other candidates and volunteers from across the Bay Area. Additionally, homeowners complete 20 classes that range from Being a Good Neighbor and Understanding My Mortgage Documents to Home Maintenance and Financial Education 1, 2 and 3. Once their home is completed they purchase it with a 30 year zero interest mortgage. These payments are then reinvested and combined with contributions from organizations like Hands Across the Bay, allowing Habitat to continue the construction of future homes, thus leaving a perpetual legacy for each homeowner.
