Mission Statement
Volunteers in Service to the Elderly's (VISTE) mission is to enable the frail elderly to remain safely and independently in their own homes.
About This Cause
Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE) was founded in 1983 as a local nonprofit organization in Lakeland and now serves over 4,000 seniors, 70 years of age and above, throughout Lakeland, Bartow, Fort Meade, and Mulberry. Services include transportation to doctor’s appointments and other destinations, hot meals delivered to clients who cannot cook for themselves, groceries to clients on limited incomes, birthday cakes to clients 90 or older, and many more. A large network of dedicated volunteers makes it possible to provide these services at no cost to our clients, many of whom live on very limited fixed incomes. At the end of last year, over 90% of VISTE’s clients remained safe and independent in their own homes. Helping the elderly stay in their own homes improves their quality of life, and keeping them out of institutionalized care saves the community money!
