Mission Statement
The mission of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County is to improve birth outcomes and promote healthy families by providing access to care, education and support to those facing the physical, emotional, economic and social challenges of pregnancy and infant care.
About This Cause
In 1986, a group of volunteers gathered to address an alarming problem in Palm Beach County – a large number of women were showing up in local emergency rooms to deliver their babies – without any prenatal care. More than thirty-two years later, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies has become the leading local agency in preparing pregnant women for the most important role in their life – that of a mother to her child. With ten programs, more than 60 employees, countywide efforts and a strong Board of Directors, we engage and support women throughout their pregnancy to ensure the delivery of a healthy baby. Each year, an average of 14,000 babies are born in Palm Beach County. Our organization has touch points with more than 70% of the women who deliver them. Our goal continues to be to improve birth outcomes in Palm Beach County with targeted focus on areas of the community where there is high incidence of low birth weight infants, premature deliveries and infant mortality. With nearly 25% of pregnant women receiving little, late or no prenatal care, our efforts are designed to ensure that every baby is born healthy and that every pregnant family has access to all facets of prenatal care and health education.
