Mission Statement
We provide essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare.
About This Cause
Our cornerstone program, the Ronald McDonald House®, provides a home away from home for families with children receiving treatment at hospitals and medical facilities in Orlando. Before Ronald McDonald Houses, parents were sleeping in their cars or in chairs in the hospital waiting room, eating out of vending machines, or bearing the expense of impersonal hotel rooms. There are three Ronald McDonald Houses in Orlando– one on the campus of Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, one on the campus of AdventHealth for Children, and one on the campus of Nemours Children’s Health. Each year, about 2,700 families stay with us to be close to their critically ill children. Since the first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia, PA, McDonald’s, including owner/operators, suppliers, employees, and customers, has consistently supported families with sick children. This support ranges from monetary contributions, volunteerism, cause-related marketing promotions, to hosting RMHC Donation Canisters that raise funds globally. McDonald’s ongoing assistance has enabled RMHC to positively impact millions of children and families. Local McDonald’s owner/operators in Central Florida contribute significantly, with their time, talents, and financial donations making up about 15% of our annual budget. The remainder comes from the generosity of individuals, companies, and foundations in our community. The first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia in 1974. Today, the organization is worldwide with programs in 43 countries and regions– a global network of hope and healing. Thanks to Orlando’s prominence as both a tourist destination and a pediatric healthcare destination, our three Houses have served families from 64 countries.
