About This Cause
Family Promise of Greater Orlando is an established nonprofit agency that has provided emergency shelter, meals and support services over the past 20 years to families in Central Florida who have experienced a crisis that has resulted in them becoming homeless. We are an affiliate of the national organization, Family Promise, Inc., which has 200 affiliates operating in 41 states across the nation. Family Promise programs can be grouped into three main pillars: Emergency Response includes diversion, prevention and emergency shelter. Family Promise believes that the best way to assist families facing homelessness is ensuring that they do not lose their current homes. In those instances, Family Promise first attempts to prevent homelessness by providing conflict mediation with landlords or housemates and/or financial assistance. In the event a family does become homeless, our emergency shelter program provides a safe refuge, nutritious meals and intensive case management services with the goal of supporting the family on their journey to self-sufficiency. Housing includes rapid rehousing and partners in housing. Through a myriad of modalities, Family Promise works alongside government and non-profit partners to assists homeless families in navigating their respective housing challenges. Whether it is providing financial assistance to families to help with move-in costs, assisting with housing resource navigation or offering Family Promise owned affordable housing properties to clients, Family Promise strives to secure housing and support the diverse needs and situations of the families we serve. Stabilization seeks to build the self-sufficiency capacity of the families engaged with Family Promise. This can be as simple as budgeting or as personal as career coaching. Family Promise partners with families to ensure that they develop the skills, tools and resources to navigate the challenges life may bring. These three focus areas allow us to engage with families throughout the entire continuum of homelessness. Our staff work tirelessly to not only meet the direct needs of the families we serve but to empower them, restoring their belief in themselves and fostering a spirit of resilience. Through the collaborative approach where we blend resources from our local government, benevolent donors, a dedicated faith community and skilled workforce, we were able to provide holistic support, timely intervention and housing support to over 200 families in 2021.
