Mission Statement
The Children's Advocacy Center’s mission is to reduce the trauma experienced by sexually abused children by providing services to them in a nurturing, friendly and safe environment. Additionally, the Center strives to improve the procedures by which child sexual abuse cases are handled in our 17-county Bluegrass Region. Our goal is to foster the healing and recovery process for victims of child sexual abuse. The Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass coordinates all agencies involved in the investigation of child sexual abuse, and provides education to professionals and the public about abuse. All services are provided at no cost to children and their non-offending families.
About This Cause
Since 1994, the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass has worked to reduce the trauma experienced by child victims of sexual abuse and bring hope and healing to families throughout Central Kentucky. The organization coordinates the investigation, prosecution and treatment of child sexual abuse cases under one roof to better serve children and their families. Previously, children had to navigate a difficult and confusing system of multiple, repetitive interviews and exams, the system is now streamlined for the benefit of the child. The Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass is modeled on the simple but powerful concept of coordination between community agencies and professionals involved in the intervention system. Each year, more than 700 children from 17 Central Kentucky counties come to the Center for forensic interviews, medical examinations, counseling and support. All services are provided in a nurturing, friendly, and safe environment at no cost to a child's family. The Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass operates a child-friendly medical clinic on-site to identify injuries, collect medical evidence, treat child victims, provide mental health screenings, and make recommendations for follow up care. Regardless of how long ago the assault occurred, it is important that child and adolescent victims are medically examined to ensure that they are physically and emotionally healthy. A physician and nurse with extensive experience evaluating child victims of sexual abuse are available to treat victims and answer questions about the exam process. The medical examinations conducted at the Children's Advocacy Center are a vital component in the criminal investigation into sexual abuse and also serve to reassure children that no permanent damage has been done to the their body. The Children's Advocacy Center is a beacon of light for children and families in crisis, ensuring that every child in need has access to specialized, no cost medical and mental health care. As the only agency of its kind in Central Kentucky, we listen to those with the smallest voice and champion the rights, well-being, and healing of innocent victims who have experienced unfathomable trauma. Since 1994, the Children’s Advocacy Center has helped thousands of courageous children discover a safe place to share their story and learn to trust again.
