Mission Statement

The Mission of the Conservancy is to preserve and protect Rosedale’s historically landmarked, eighteenth century terraced lawns. We provide the stewardship and management for the three acres of rare urban green space in the heart of Cleveland Park, Washington, DC. and have protected it from development in perpetuity. We provide education about the history and historical significance of Rosedale, which includes one of the oldest structures in Washington DC, dating back to the 1730's. As a privately-funded public park, Rosedale is supported solely by the contributions of friends and community neighbors.

About This Cause

The Rosedale Conservancy is managed by a board of 13 people. Seven of them are "Designated Property Members" whose properties border the land of the conservancy. Three are general members from the neighboring community. Three are representatives of neighborhood organizations including the Cleveland Park Citizens Association, Cleveland Park Historical Society, and our Advisory Neighborhood Commission C3. Rosedale provides community activities year round including the annual Easter Egg Hunt, a community BBQ, and a Pumpkin Carving Party in the fall. We also provide events for children including Field Day, Laser Tab, Reptiles Alive visit and Story Time for toddlers in coordination with our local library. We also provide outdoor live music concerts for our neighbors to come and picnic on the lawns. All events are free and open to the public. Rosedale is open to the public from sunrise to sunset and is a wonderful place to bring lawn chairs and gather outside. Children love to play hide and seek in the boxwoods and frolic on the lawns.
