Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide and promote social well-being to the citizens of Rockingham County and surrounding localities by providing relief to low-income individuals and families with food, clothing and furniture in a dignified and respectful manner.
About This Cause
Hope Distributed was launched in October of 2004. We are composed of 3 major entities: free clothing store, food bank and a furniture warehouse, all fully operational and staffed. Hope Distributed is a community development organization that provides relief to low income individuals and families living in Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, VA and surrounding localities, thereby providing social wellbeing and improving the quality of life for the citizens of the area. Hope Distributed helps individuals and families secure food and clothing items, including but not limited to, canned goods, baked goods, beverages and water, frozen goods, blankets, clothing for all ages and all sizes, hygiene products and other amenities and resources. Hope Distributed has local partnerships with Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Feeding America, Wal-Mart, Food Lion, Costco, Kroger, Kid’s Harbor, local consignment stores and private individuals, providing and serving our community with dignity and respect. Hope Distributed serves more than 24,000 individuals, distributes more than 800,000 lbs. of food, and supplies over 12,000 complete outfits and hundreds of household items and pieces of furniture to individuals in need on a yearly basis. In 2019, Hope Distributed over 1,000,000 ponds of food, our goal is to top that in 2020. Hope Distributed has remained opened in light of the COVID-19 global pandemic. We have seen an increase in the number of individuals we serve. We have also added to key components to our food distribution. We are providing schools, in our city and surrounding county, with the food needed to supply families in need with food. As schools have been cancelled many students do not have the guarantee of at least two meals. With the implementation of this program, we know they are being fed! The other program is a delivery system for individuals whom are hesitant to come to our pantry because of age or underlying health risks. We are now taking their food to them!
