Mission Statement
Get Girls Going (GGG) empowers Black teen girls to create social enterprises that solve problems in the world, and in doing so equips them to be leaders that challenge racial and gender inequities that prevent them from success.
About This Cause
Get Girls Going is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that empowers black teen girls to become entrepreneurs. As a way to increase the representation of true leadership in business, Black Women need platforms. To this end, GGG runs a 6-week intensive summer incubator that grooms teen girls to enter their womanhood with the skills and networks to become leaders and successful entrepreneurs. For 6 weeks, Black teen entrepreneurs at GGG research, identify, and learn how to develop unique and innovative solutions for social problems they are passionate about solving. The summer incubator is held on a college campus in Boston for 5 hours per day, Monday through Friday. The first part of each day is dedicated to learning a diverse range of entrepreneurship content relating to design thinking principles, lean start up and entrepreneurial mindset. The second part of the day utilized for teen entrepreneurs to work with their mentors and apply their learnings to the development of their own business ideas using project based and experiential learning methodologies. By the end of the summer, each teen entrepreneur would have developed a unique social enterprise and will pitch their idea for a chance to win seed funding they can put toward their business. Get Girls Going continues to support each entrepreneur long after the summer incubator through our school year programming which includes workshops, advisor meetings, funding and additional resources. At Get Girls Going we believe that our young black girls have the solutions, experiences and skills to be leaders that can change our future. All they need is a community who recognizes their magic and can empower them to shine.
