Mission Statement
To enrich the lives of Nashville's youth by providing opportunities that encourage them to reach their full potential spiritually, academically, socially and physically through daily programming in a Christ-centered community
About This Cause
Youth Encouragement Services is a nonprofit organization formed in 1956. The vision of YES is to help inner-city students become great citizens of Nashville. We aim to support at-risk children by encouraging them to realize their full potential and advocating a better future for themselves and their families. We pursue improvement in the Nashville Community by enhancing the individual lives of its inner-city children; seeking to meet their needs by developing them academically, physically, spiritually and socially. WHERE are we? YES operates two youth centers in low-income areas of Nashville: South Nashville - Woodbine Community and Downtown Nashville - Napier/Sudekum Public Housing WHO do we serve? Youth Encouragement Services is open to children ages 6-18. Most come from the neighborhoods surrounding our centers. These neighborhoods are impoverished areas often with high crime rates, increasing gang activity and low levels of education. Many children that come to our centers have single parents or two parents who work and would otherwise go to empty homes after school or in the summer. We also seek to support families through various programs such as our Christmas Store and Back to School event. WHAT do we do? There is never a dull moment at YES! We serve hundreds of children through various programs at our two locations. We have programs that run after school and all day during the summer. The intent of each program is to assist with home- work, improve math and reading skills, to provide organized sports and recreational activities, and to provide opportunities for cultural enrichment and social development.
