to provide, to the maximum extent possible within available resources, emergency assistance with food, clothing, rent, utilities, prescription medicine and Senior Adult care packages to Portland, Cottontown, Westmoreland and Bethpage residents who are economically eligible
About This Cause
Opened the doors June 1, 1992 with seven supporting churches in a 1770 square foot building. We were there for five years. We then purchased a 6420 square foot building. We were there for 12 years. We purchase 3.3 acres of land, paid for it and then built a 15,000 square foot facility, which we are still currently occupying. We operate with a volunteer Board of Directors, we employ 4 associates and an Executive Director and we rely heavily on volunteers to help us accomplish our mission. Along with food, clothing, rent, utilities, prescription medicine and Senior Adult care packages, we distribute Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes and we also provide Christmas gifts for children and Senior Adults. We offer a Breakfast with Santa, which is sponsored by one of our supporting churches. We receive funding from the following: 21 area churches, City of Portland, City of Portland Project Help fund, our thrift store, United Way, civic groups, school groups, private individuals, business and industry, and grants
