Mission Statement
A place for all young people that offers hope and changes futures through Christ's love.
About This Cause
Many teens today are grappling with the weight of identity, self-worth, and the pressures of today’s culture. Anxiety, depression, and addiction loom over their young lives. Teens find themselves craving acceptance and understanding amidst the chaos of messages from social media, today’s culture, and issues with peers. Introducing Rocketown, founded in 1994 by Contemporary Christian Music artist Michael W. Smith as a safe place that addresses these struggles head-on with guidance and mentoring, shielding them from negative influences, fostering community, offering HOPE in unique and culturally relevant ways, and reaching the teenagers who might not be reached by anyone else. It is a place where understanding and compassion take precedence, and where teenagers can be and be known for who they are. Rocketown is a unique drop-in "student center," specifically designed to serve any young person between the ages of 12 to 18. Many of the students can be defined as minority, low income, underserved, unsupported, disconnected, marginalized, “at-risk”, and often feel isolated and hopeless. Substance abuse is common in most homes. Several of the students are homeless or are foster children. Being located in downtown Nashville, Rocketown primarily serves young people in the JC Napier, Cayce, Edgehill, and Sudekem housing communities where youth are often influenced by peer groups with criminal involvement. Pioneering in the Southeast, Rocketown offers diverse activities that empower young people for success in life. Teens are attracted to Rocketown because of the free recording studio, Middle Tennessee’s only indoor skatepark, cooking classes, Coffee Café, music venue, block parties, raves, esports, talent shows, and after-school health and wellness, academic enrichment, and creative arts programs. What they discover is more meaningful: positive adult mentors, opportunities for personal growth and development, free mental health services, uplifting community, volunteer opportunities, Rocketown’s Assisted Meal Program (RAMP), social/emotional learning groups, discussions around current events such as inequality and social injustice, and a caring staff to help them thrive in today’s culture. All young people are welcome at Rocketown, and all programs are FREE thanks to hundreds of generous individuals, companies and foundations. Rocketown is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated changing the trajectory of at-risk teens by offering HOPE to the next generation through Christ’s love. Comedy for a Cause, Rocketown's annual fundraising event, helps ensure that all programs and services at Rocketown remain FREE, ensuring teenagers can discover HOPE through the love of Christ.
