Friends of Tennessee's Babies with Special Needs is a force of good with arms wide open, pulling families close into one deliberate hug and saying Hey, let's rest here awhile and talk about how wonderful you are!
About This Cause
Friends of Tennessee's Babies with Special Needs is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, established in 1995, that supports young children birth to 3 with special needs and their families “Friends” is totally supported by grants, personal donations and community volunteers. Over 3,000 families are eligible to receive services. The organization provides a statewide Loaner Hearing Aid Bank for children with hearing loss, a resource library to help families learn more about their child’s disability or condition and respite care to give families who are caring for a child who is medically fragile, the opportunity to network with others and strengthen their relationship with their partner. Families are provided many free family events including a day at the Zoo, a night at a minor league baseball game, and a Holiday Ho Ho Ho Down party. Over 100 volunteers give their time to make this a special day for the little ones and their families. With an attendance of approximately 1,000 people, family members have the opportunity to help their children make ornaments, decorate cookies, play games and dance to holiday music with their friends. Every child chooses a gift to take home and each family receives a free photo with Santa as a souvenir of their wonderful day. Friends provides Care Packages and a quarterly Baby Shower to families who have premature babies in the NICU at Children’s Hospital. Also, once a month we offer First Friday Date Night. Families have the opportunity to bring all of their children for free childcare. The children have fun for three hours while their parents have a “Date Night”! Finally, we provide diapers, formula, feeding equipment, assistance for families to travel to out of state medical appointments, and emergency help for families who are being evicted from their homes, unable to pay their heat bill or have funeral expenses due to the death of their child with special needs.
