The mission of Empower Me Center is to transform the lives of individuals with special needs through activities and opportunities for growth in a safe, secure environment while providing community education on disabilities and inclusiveness.
About This Cause
Established in 1999 Empower Me Center meets the needs of individuals with Special Needs throughout Middle Tennessee. What began as a weekend basketball league evolved to numerous year-round opportunities. Empower Me Center has provided life-changing, comprehensive and compassionate care to thousands of individuals with special needs and their families throughout 26 years of service. Through our six-week Summer Day Camp, 4 day per week-Adult Day Dreamers Program and 17 Year-Round Respite and Enrichment Activities, we provide 3,000+ positive learning, recreational and social activity experiences for approximately 500 individuals with special needs annually. Our programs serve individuals beginning at age 5. We serve individuals with a wide range of disabilities, both visible and invisible. Empower Me Center is a fun place where transformational growth takes place and lifelong friendships are formed. We strive to increase responsibility and independence in every individual. We value their strengths and their differences and are dedicated to empowering them to live fun, healthy, fulfilling, and productive lives. At Empower Me Center, we believe that every individual in this world, regardless of abilities, equally deserves to have access to, choice of, and an opportunity to participate in a full range of activities. We enable individuals with disabilities to grow and thrive through participation in activities like those of their peers through adaptations or modifications. Our programs provide safe fellowship, therapeutic recreation, enhanced personal independence and respite for caregivers, improving the overall health and well-being of the entire family. Despite their special needs, individuals with disabilities have the capacity to participate in a wide range of community activities when provided the opportunity and appropriate support, such as the programming offered by the professional staff at Empower Me Center. To meet the American Camping Association’s suggested guidelines, we provide a 1:2 staff to participant ratio for our activities. We are uniquely prepared to provide services for special needs individuals, in that our personnel include occupational & physical therapists, speech language pathologists, special education teachers, counselors, nurses, and college students pursuing healthcare or education degrees. Investing in our programs provides participants with long-term intellectual development, self-confidence, cognitive reasoning, life skills, employment skills, friendship, and recreation in a nurturing and safe environment. This results in greater independence and physical and emotional well-being.
