Mission Statement
Railroad Park inspires energy, revitalization and a sense of place in Birmingham by stimulating cultural, economic and social activity within and around the Park.
About This Cause
Railroad Park celebrates Birmingham’s industrial and artistic heritage at the site of Birmingham’s founding. Located between the rail line and 1st Avenue South, and bordered by 14th and 18th Streets, the eight-block green space serves as a bridge connecting the UAB Campus and Southside Birmingham with the downtown business district. Railroad Park serves a residential market in a 20-mile radius as well as a destination for visitors from around the world. This 19-acre park is a joint effort between the Railroad Park Foundation, the City of Birmingham and a collaboration of public and private community leaders. The Park is owned by the City of Birmingham; the Railroad Park Foundation has an agreement with the City to administer the Park. Railroad Park opened in September 2010 to great acclaim, and in the tradition of other great urban parks, it is spurring transformation of the city center and surrounding neighborhoods.
