Mission Statement
Established in 1989, Caridad Center's mission is to upgrade the health, education, and living standards of under-served children and families in Palm Beach County, FL. Our vision is to eliminate the cycle of poverty for the families that we serve.
About This Cause
Caridad Center, founded in 1989 and located in Palm Beach County, FL, has evolved over the past 30 years from a modest trailer to the largest free and charitable clinic in Florida. In the past year, we served over 7,500 unduplicated clients and provided 83,000 services across a wide range of areas including medical, dental, vision, mental and behavioral health, social services, and health education. Caridad Center's reach is broad, with almost 10% of the county's population living 200% below poverty receiving services directly from Caridad. We have a diverse staff of 63 employees and 500+ volunteers who work together to ensure all individuals have access to high-quality healthcare. Caridad Center is committed to serving historically marginalized communities in Palm Beach County who are impacted by the social determinants of health and who face barriers to accessing health care. Caridad’s vision is to eliminate the cycle of poverty for the families that we serve in South Florida. We recognize that our patients reside in low-income and under-resourced communities as a result of system inequities. Thus, we aim to eradicate the barriers that prevent our patients from accessing the healthcare system. We do this by offering: -Accessible Healthcare: Caridad provides free healthcare services to individuals and families who do not have insurance and cannot afford care elsewhere. Each client served at Caridad goes through an eligibility process with typical qualifications including income below 200% of the federal poverty level. -Comprehensive Care: Caridad offers a wide range of services, including medical, dental, vision, medication dispensary, laboratory services, behavioral health, social services, and health education. Our comprehensive approach addresses not only acute health issues but also focuses on preventive measures, health education, and overall wellness. -Culturally Competent Care: Caridad is staffed by volunteers and healthcare professionals who understand and respect the cultural and linguistic diversity of the communities we serve. Most of the team is bilingual in English and Spanish, and we have a number of members fluent in Haitian Creole. Additionally, Caridad hires and trains community members as Community Health Workers to ensure patients receive education and navigation from trusted individuals with similar backgrounds to our patients. -Community Outreach: Caridad has established and maintained broad-based local support and commitment from the community and faith-based organizations representing diverse minority racial and ethnic populations. -Social Services and Case Management: Caridad offers case management, assistance with social determinants of health (e.g., emergency aid and food), and referrals to other community resources. These services address the broader factors contributing to health inequality. -Health Education: Besides addressing our patients’ needs through medical care, Caridad Center aims to help patients through our Health Education program. The program takes a comprehensive approach to helping adults and children with chronic diseases through group and individual educational sessions, community events, health fairs, and lifestyle modification programs. -Collaboration with Partners: Caridad’s capacity to meet clients' needs is enhanced by more than 200 partnerships with hospitals, health clinics, pharmaceutical companies, specialty healthcare providers, civic groups, human service organizations, government agencies, foundations, businesses, and educational institutions such as colleges, universities, and technical schools.
