Mission Statement
Abandoned Pet Rescue (APR) is a no-kill animal shelter with the mission to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abandoned and neglected cats and dogs, while also promoting responsible pet ownership and advocating for animal welfare in our community. APR is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies on volunteers and donations to save lives.
About This Cause
Founded by a group of community volunteers in 1996, Abandoned Pet Rescue (APR) is Fort Lauderdale's only no-kill animal shelter. Operating with a small, committed staff and the support of over 500 community volunteers, APR provides refuge for up to 150 cats and 35 dogs. On average, out of the 350 annual intakes, 330 pets are adopted out, plus 20 medical adoptions, which allow seniors and pets with special needs to be in a loving home while receiving free medical care from the shelter veterinarian for the life of the pet. Pets come to APR as owner surrenders, strays and rescues from high-kill shelters. APR is equipped with an on-site clinic staffed by a licensed veterinarian and trained technicians, offering comprehensive medical care, vaccinations, spaying/neutering and other surgeries. Our team rehabilitates malnourished, abused or unwell animals to prepare them for adoption into committed homes. Additionally, APR supports community cat colonies by providing food and medical care to sick or injured cats. Since its inception, APR has facilitated the adoption of over 10,000 pets.
