Mission Statement
Project Medishare empowers Haitians to provide and receive access to quality health care. We share our knowledge and resources with local partners to improve health infrastructure and strengthen the skills of medical professionals. Our programs are community-based and Haitian led.
About This Cause
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. Access to health care and development services are limited. There are four health professionals for every 10,000 people – even less in rural communities. Easily treatable and preventable diseases often lead to death, especially among pregnant women and children. Without basic health care, efforts to improve economic and social conditions in the country are futile. Project Medishare believes health care is a fundamental human right. That's why for more than 20 years, we have been dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of vulnerable Haitian families. We don’t simply “give” Haitians health care and related services through aid and medical missions. Instead, we empower Haitians to help themselves through grassroots public health initiatives, and by investing in the training and employment of local medical professionals. Project Medishare provides nearly 80,000 people in Haiti's Central Plateau with direct access to essential healthcare services. Through our partnership with Hospital Bernard Mevs in Port-au- Prince, we provide healthcare to thousands of critically ill and injured patients, and training to medical staff. We help mothers deliver healthy babies in a safe environment. We ensure school children are able to eat a nutritious, well-balanced meal. We enhance the skills of local doctors in specialty areas such as pediatrics, wound care and neurosurgery.
