Mission Statement
Our mission is to Ignite Great Moments of Discovery in enrichment and STEM fields by providing high-quality learning experiences that inspire our students to be curious, creative, and innovative problem solvers. We seek to make STEM enrichment programs affordable and accessible to all students without compromising the quality behind each workshop. Our goal is to offer our programs in all 78 municipalities in Puerto Rico, with a special focus on low-income areas.
About This Cause
Eureka Enrichment Services is a 501(c)(3) non-profit currently registered to do business in Florida and Puerto Rico. Eureka was born out of a vision to provide transformative learning opportunities on our island where sadly disparities and inequalities in education are deep. Understanding the powerful impact of after school and summer learning, Eureka set out to provide high-quality enrichment opportunities for kids from all socio-economic backgrounds in Puerto Rico. With a firm belief in the transformative power of meaningful educational experiences, Eureka launched its first learning center in 2004 and began its operation with Camp Eureka followed by a Math and Reading Center. The strength and success of Eureka’s educational programs qualified Eureka for partnership with national organizations who trusted Eureka to deliver their programs to students in Puerto Rico. The organizations include FIRST® Robotics, ZERO Robotics and the Scripps National Spelling Bee. More than 20,000 students and 200 educators have been impacted by the programs Eureka has been delivering since 2004. FIRST LEGO League Discover – A playful introductory STEM program for children ages 4-6 years old that ignites their natural curiosity and builds their habits of learning with hands-on activities in the classroom and at home using LEGO® Duplo bricks. FIRST LEGO League Explore - A worldwide, non-competitive program that introduces STEM and robotics concepts to 6-10 year-old students. Students must research and learn about a subject related to that season’s selected topic, create a LEGO model with at least 1 programmed element related to the subject and present what they learned to adult observers at an official FLL JR EXPO. FIRST LEGO League Challenge- The largest worldwide robotics/STEM/life skills program for 9-14 year-old students. The competition is composed of 3 elements: the Robot Game, the Project & the Core Values. Teams composed of up to 10 students must design, build and program an autonomous LEGO robot in order to complete as many missions as possible on a thematic playing field. Teams must also research that season’s Challenge topic, identify an existing problem, design an innovative solution and present their project to the community at large. Finally, teams must demonstrate and are judged on how they have demonstrated FLL’s Core Values throughout the season and in the different tournaments. FIRST® Tech Challenge - FIRST® Tech Challenge is a transformative robotic program that challenges teams (up to 15 team members, grades 7-12) to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team. The robot kit is reusable from year to year and can be coded using a variety of levels of Java-based programming. Teams design and build robots, raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach to earn specific awards. ZERO Robotics – A FREE summer program developed in coordination between NASA and MIT, where middle school students learn to program actual satellites in the International Space Station. This program is free for students, but not for us. We depend on sponsors to cover our costs. National Spelling Bee - Eureka was able to rescue this venerable program after the delivery partner of more than 20 years was no longer able to continue to support it. Since 2017, Eureka has assumed all costs for running the program and depends on the generosity of sponsors to bring the program to more public schools and to provide high quality events that celebrate student achievement. CHICAS STEM - This program, first launched in 2018, is dedicated entirely to increasing female participation in STEM workshops. Finally, Eureka also provides professional development workshops that equips schools and teachers with the necessary tools to ignite STEM learning in their classrooms. For more than 15 years, Eureka has been unwavering in its fight for students and pushing for the most effective and dynamic learning opportunities for ALL students in ALL of Puerto Rico. This resilience and steadfast resolve to insist on learning, has allowed students on our island to flourish and achieve great things, even amidst of extraordinary challenges. Join us in becoming new agents of change in transforming education in Puerto Rico.
