Mission Statement

Prison Radio, a project of the 501c3 non-profit organization Redwood Justice Fund, is dedicated to challenging the injustices of mass incarceration by bringing the voices of prisoners into the public dialogue on crime and punishment.

About This Cause

The Redwood Justice Fund’s mission is to promote positive environmental values and defend human and civil rights secured by law. Our work includes but is not limited to educational programs, litigation, organizational support and funding for other nonprofit organizations whose work has similar goals regarding positive environmental values and the defense of human and civil rights. Two of our projects receive donations through Benevity. Prison Radio's mission is to challenge the injustices of mass incarceration by bringing the voices of prisoners into the public dialogue on crime and punishment. We do this by recording and distributing commentaries by more than 30 prisoners across the United States. Our radio broadcasts and educational materials help spur the public to examine core issues that have spurred the growth of prisons, and serve as a catalyst for worldwide activism. Prison Radio’s productions illustrate the perspectives and the intrinsic human worth of the more than 7.1 million people under correctional control in the U.S. and of those not served by the justice system. Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) SF is the San Franciso chapter of the national network that organizes and motivates white people to work for racial justice. We envision a society where we struggle together with love, for justice, human dignity and a sustainable world.
