Mission Statement
The Lodi House is a private nonprofit organization that has fed, sheltered and renewed the lives of homeless women and their children for over 21 years. The Lodi Houses mission is to create a secure structured environment for homeless women and children. Provide stability, training, accountability and renewal by offering resources and support to assist them in developing healthy lifestyles that will lead to permanent employment and independence. Lodi House has a record of building relationships with its guests in order to identify their specific needs and support them in productive and meaningful ways to become self-sufficient.
About This Cause
Lodi House was founded in 1999 by Annette Murdaca who recognized there were no services for homeless women and children in Lodi, California. The Lodi House received its first guest on September 11, 2000 and has continued to serve hundreds of women and children ever since providing stability, training, accountability and renewal to homeless women and children in Lodi. Stability is achieved through furnishing our clients with a clean and safe home that includes healthy living rules and expectations. In addition, Lodi House has a daily schedule, house routines, chores, responsibilities and regular family meals. Training is offered through the Lodi House Enrichment Center where guests are able to learn to write or improve their resumes, do job searches, mock interviews, create a personal budget and saving plan as well as attend workshops on finances, parenting and helping kids succeed in school. Accountability is accomplished through onsite staff at the Lodi House as well as a case manager that meets with guest throughout the week to monitor their progress. In addition, many Lodi House alumni continue to stay connected to the program by utilizing Lodi House’s transitional apartments and/or receiving on-going support and services. Renewal is given through an opportunity to have a fresh start, setting achievable goals and offering free therapy. In addition, Lodi House offers all guest access to free clothing and housing supplies through the Lodi House Thrift Store to help them as they begin their new life. Lodi House’s short term goals are to connect homeless women and children with the resources and support they need to establish healthy productive lives. The top priorities are helping women solidify full time employment and creating a stable environment for their children to learn and grow. Lodi House’s long term goal is for each woman to acquire the skills needed to experience hope and healing in their lives. And as a result, they would be confident and self-sufficient in maintaining healthy lifestyles where their families can grow and thrive. Lodi House’ strategy for achieving its goals is to see each client as an individual and build healthy relationships. The Lodi House staff works as a cohesive team to identify client roadblocks and unhealthy habits and set attainable goals. Lodi House staff strives to provide the resources, stability, accountability, training, and support needed to achieve their goals and advance in their personal growth. The Lodi House ultimately measures success through program completion as well as their continued growth. Lodi House is able to achieve these goals through grants, Lodi House Thrift Store revenue and the community’s on going financial support. These funds allow Lodi House to maintain a small hands-on program where five women and her children participate at one given time in an intense program that is closely monitored by Lodi House. This close accountability assists women in confronting their deficiencies to face their challenges head on while receiving the encouragement, resources and support needed to overcome obstacles as well as to build their confidence and ultimately improve their lives.
