Mission Statement
Sol Collective is a community-based 501(c)(3) partnership whose mission is to provide artistic, cultural, and educational programming, promote social justice, and empower youth of color, marginalized, and underserved communities through art, activism, music, and media.
About This Cause
Established in 2003, Sol Collective is a community based partnership whose unique mission is to use art, education, and technology as a didactic medium to create mobilization and community empowerment. The Sol Collective Arts and Cultural center is a 3,200 square foot community space located in Sacramento hosting art exhibitions, multimedia workshops, mentorship programs, and community forums. Sol Collective also hosts a community music recording studio and hosts the Global Local music series pairing touring music acts from around the globe with local artists. Sol Collective also leads city-wide cultural celebrations such as Dia De Los Muertos in Old Sacramento, the Pinata Festival, as well as national showcase Global Local in Austin, TX during SXSW music festival. In addition, the space is available for local organizations that provide service and advocacy within the fields of social justice, cultural activism and community empowerment. Much more than the physical building, Sol Collective is the devoted team of community members, activists, educators, and volunteers that kept the organizational vision after a devastating fire that destroyed the previous location in 2008. Sol Collective has been able to continue their mission with the support of local schools, community centers, sponsors, and volunteers through re-opening the new center in February 2010 and eventually purchasing the building in 2017. Sol Collective operates under the executive board of Freedom Bound Center, composed of educators, organizers, and community activists with the aid of an advisory board consisting of experts in the specific fields of music, media, health and community relations. The majority of the staff at Sol Collective are educators (K-University) or have teaching experience, making it the ideal institution to facilitate and host community-wide organizational education on a broader spectrum. Sol Collective's vision is to provide artistic, cultural, and educational programming, promote social justice, and empower youth.
