Mission Statement
To provide a holistic network of support and programs for Veterans, their families, and members of the community wherein participants will ‘Achieve Economic Empowerment through Education, Entrepreneurship, and Employment.
About This Cause
The VETS Group was founded in 2004 as a nonprofit 501(c)3 community-based organization in Washington, D.C. by Joe Wynn, President/CEO and a veteran of the US Air Force. As part of our ongoing mission, in 2010, the VETS Group established the VETS Group Training Academy to provide workforce skills training to prepare students for high demand occupations in the IT/Telecom Industry. The VETS Group IT Training Academy programs are approved by the Maryland, Virginia and DC Higher Education Commissions and the Department of Veterans Affairs. VETS Group programs and services are also offered to disabled veterans, Black veterans, women veterans, people with disabilities, minorities, persons of limited means – homeless, formerly incarcerated, unemployed, under-employed, and dislocated workers. Case management, mentoring, and coordination of employment services by our staff and its organizational partners are major activities and critical to supporting students from their first visit to our Training Center through employment; and for some, even after they are employed. The VETS Group works with individuals at all levels and does not discriminate. A number of our students have college degrees; some have been working as IT professionals for years; and some are former military veterans with top secret clearances. For years, we have regularly provided workshops, info sessions and public forums on a variety of topics covering Financial Literacy, Employment, Housing, Legal Rights, Veterans Benefits, Health Care, and Entrepreneurship for a diverse group of community residents and small business owners of all races; gender; ages; and economic status. The Vets Group regularly offers outreach activities to educate D.C. community residents about financial literacy. Workshops are given on such topics as Money Management, Credit Repair, Banking, Saving, Budgeting and Retirement Planning.
