Mission Statement
Our House empowers homeless and near-homeless families and individuals to succeed in the workforce, in school, and in life, through hard work, wise decision-making, and active participation in the community.
About This Cause
Our House was founded in 1987 to help homeless families and single adults in central Arkansas overcome homelessness and achieve self-sufficiency. Now in our 28th year, Our House has grown into a comprehensive program for transforming the lives of homeless and other extremely low-income families. We employ a whole-family approach to empower the families we serve, providing educational programs and supportive services for adults and children of all ages. In the past three years, Our House has executed an ambitious strategy of expanding to meet the rising need in the community while also deepening our positive impact in each client’s life. Significant milestones from the past year include: • Built and opened a new, $5 million Children’s Center that triples our daily capacity to serve homeless and near homeless children. Funding for the center came from 491 different private donors and only one public funding source. • Secured a $5 million New Markets Tax Credit deal funded by two national investors, JP Morgan Chase and Brownfield Revitalization LLC. The NMTC deal generated more than $1 million in net proceeds to Our House for use in finalizing the new Children’s Center and operating the expanded programs within it. The NMTC deal was a complex investment that had to be closed in a very short (six-week) window of time. • Substantially grew our client base. Over the past three years, Our House grown the number of clients served annually by 57.8%, the number of children served annually by 201%, and the number of clients served daily by 253% • Achieved measurable impacts in people’s lives: o 76% of adults and children moved up the housing ladder upon exit from Our House o 53% of adults left with full-time jobs—with 220 different employers in central Arkansas o 76% of adults left with money in savings • Expanded our support from the community: o 3,155 unique volunteers gave 17,977 hours of service o 1,802 unique donors gave $1,690,707 worth of in-kind goods and services
