About This Cause

Founded as Travelers Aid in 1925, Upward Transitions has served Central Oklahoma for 100 years. The Community Outreach Program offers emergency relief, case management, and direct services to tackle homelessness and the risk of eviction among families in Central Oklahoma. These services and financial support effectively eliminate barriers to securing or maintaining housing, helping individuals move past their immediate crises. Upward Transitions employs a strengths-based case management approach, where case managers empower clients and their families, encouraging them to lead in identifying their needs. In the fiscal year 2024 (July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024), our Community Outreach program assisted 4,025 individuals in 2,802 households with essential needs. This included 1) obtaining legal documents and IDs for individuals experiencing homelessness to gain employment and housing, 2) providing rent and utility assistance to families and seniors to avert homelessness, and 3) arranging emergency travel for stranded travelers, as well as victims of domestic violence and human trafficking, to reach safe destinations with supportive networks. We are an active participant of the Key to Home, Coalition to End Poverty, and Coordinated Case Management. For 51 years, Upward Transitions’ Travelers Aid Volunteers have assisted travelers at OKC Will Rogers International Airport. In the fiscal year 2024, 33 volunteers dedicated 6,398 hours to provide support to 147,668 visitors at the airport.
