Mission Statement: Inspired by Gospel values, we grow spiritually through person-to-person service to all in need in our community. Our actions promote the dignity of the person, alleviate suffering and distress, while addressing the conditions that cause them through systemic change. Vision Statement: We are a community actively living our faith by loving and providing hope to our neighbors. We envision a future where access to financial and social resources is not limited by where one lives.
About This Cause
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston was founded in 1871 in Galveston, TX. Since then, the Society has expanded to 57 local chapters serving the counties of Austin, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Harris, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Walker and Waller in the State of Texas. The Society's charity service is handled by 3400 volunteers on a day-to-day basis. Home Visits are at the core of our organization. We believe that in order to grow spiritually, build trust in the community, and provide service, we must visit our friends-in-need in their homes. These Home Visits also preserve the dignity of anyone we serve. As a volunteer-based organization, 96% of our organizational expenses are used for Direct Assistance to the poor and neighbors in need. We provide short-term financial, material, and emotional support and work person-to-person through advocacy, education and referral efforts to break cycles of poverty, empower people and promote self-sufficiency. We believe in helping all people regardless of race, religion or citizenship status. We do not discriminate. We offer confidential support services in a dignified way, because we believe these are things that all people deserve. In September 2021, we celebrated our 150th Anniversary of serving the Greater Houston community in need.
