Mission Statement
Our mission at Child Inc is to provide high-quality education and comprehensive support services for children and their families while promoting personal and social responsibility in the communities we serve. Child Inc Head Start is a national high quality research based early childhood development program designed to promote school readiness for income eligible families with children ages 0-5 including pregnant mothers, focused on closing the achievement gap between more affluent peers and lower income children.
About This Cause
Every Child Deserves a Head Start: The Work of Child Inc All children are born ready to learn, but in Central Texas, children living in poverty often enter school unprepared to succeed. Before they even walk through the classroom door, these children are already at a disadvantage. Founded in 1972, Child Inc has been dedicated to preparing low-income preschool children for success in school. While education theories, practices, and service models may evolve over time, our core belief remains unchanged: all children, especially high-risk, very young children, need comprehensive early education that involves the entire family. Early literacy is directly connected to later academic achievement, and our holistic approach includes numerous parental involvement programs. We maintain a strong, clear, and comprehensive focus on all aspects of healthy development, including social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. School-ready children possess the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for success in school and later in life. Core Programs: Early Head Start (EHS) for Ages 0-3 EHS is designed to serve pregnant women, infants, toddlers, and parents. It is a comprehensive early education and child development program offering activities that promote mental, social, physical, and emotional growth. Our infants and toddlers receive all Head Start comprehensive services, such as early education, health, dental, nutrition, mental health, social services, parent training, and parental involvement opportunities. To meet the unique needs of our families, EHS offers both center-based and home-based learning environments. Head Start for Ages 3-5 Head Start is a comprehensive early education and child development program that enhances a child's cognitive, social, and emotional development. The program provides a learning environment that supports growth in areas such as language, literacy, and social-emotional development, tailored to each child's individual needs. All children in Head Start benefit from a comprehensive health program, promoting preventive health care and assistance in establishing a medical home. Home-Based Services for Ages 0-5 Our in-home services are designed for stay-at-home mothers or mothers-to-be, aiming to support them in becoming their child's first teacher. Services are provided by trained home-based teachers who conduct hour-and-a-half weekly visits that include instructional and parenting education, with the mother observing. The program utilizes the "Parents as Teachers" and "Big Day for PreK" curricula, both nationally recognized. Parents are offered the opportunity to attend two group socializations each month, allowing them to observe their children interacting with peers, socialize with other parents, and participate in educational presentations. Additionally, home-based teachers and Family Advocates serve as case managers for health, dental, nutrition, mental health, and special needs services. Parent, Family, and Community Engagement Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child's first and most important teacher. Our programming helps build relationships with families that support their well-being and many other important areas. Positive parental involvement in the early childhood stage can significantly aid in a child's cognitive development and school readiness. Parent involvement provides opportunities for participation in various program activities that support child and adult development, including policy and program decision-making. Family Engagement fosters ongoing, goal-directed relationships between Child Inc staff and families that are mutual, culturally responsive, and supportive of the best outcomes for children and families. Staff and families share responsibility for the learning and development of children, the progress toward outcomes for children and families, and parent involvement in our program.
