Mission Statement

RMYA restores hope, one child at a time. Our mission is to create to brighter futures for children in crisis by promoting individual success and healthy relationships in a safe, healing environment, giving children and families the tools to end the cycle of abuse.

About This Cause

RMYA is committed to caring for children and families in crisis. Since 1976, we have provided services to abused, neglected, and high-risk youth through residential and counseling services many of which are offered on a sliding scale to low income families in our community. Children come to us from the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services, the City of San Antonio, Family and Youth Service Bureau as well as various County Juvenile Probation Offices. Our services help children navigate through the trauma of physical and sexual abuse, abandonment, and neglect they have experienced. RMYA provides a safe, supervised residential setting with 24 hour care, an on-campus accredited school, medical care, a nutritious diet, cultural and recreational enrichment programs, individual, family and group counseling services, life skills, and parenting classes. RMYA provides the consistent and comfortable environment necessary for children to significantly improve their behavior and decision-making skills so that they can experience a different way of living and ultimately break the cycle of abuse and violence. Who We Serve Children in Immediate Crisis When a child is out-of-control, severely depressed, struggling in school or in personal relationships, it can be difficult for a parent or caregiver to know where to turn for help. The RMYA Family Counseling & Resource Center is a great place to start. The Bridge Emergency Shelter provides 24-hour care for children 5-17 years of age who need a safe place to stay for a short period of time. Each child is evaluated for medical, dental, and mental health needs, and our dedicated staff provides guidance and support. Each resident also receives individual and group counseling at our Family Counseling & Resource Center with master’s level therapists to help them navigate toward healing from the abuse or neglect they have experienced. Children Requiring Long-term Care Our Meadowland campus in Boerne offers long-term care for up to 80 children 6-17 years of age with more serious emotional and behavioral problems, usually a result of abuse they have suffered. Meadowland includes six residential cabins for boys and girls, the Meadowland Charter School, recreational facilities, and the Burdick Community Center. All residents participate in individual and group counseling and recreational activities both on- and off-campus. Families in Crisis The RMYA Family Counseling & Resource Center provides counseling services to community families as well as to the residents in our programs. Our master’s level therapists are available to help families struggling with parent-child conflicts, anxiety, substance abuse, runaways, emotional control issues and more. Counselors also partner with UT Health Science Center psychiatric residents to provide a short-term psychiatric clinic for community children waiting to be seen by a private psychiatrist. Services are offered to the community on a sliding scale, and we accept several types of Medicaid. Parenting classes are also available. Youth in Transition to Adulthood The TurningPoint Transitional Living Program serves youth 18-21 years of age who have aged out of the foster system or experienced homeless. TurningPoint provides a safe home environment while youth learn life skills in cooking and nutrition, home management, interview and job skills, education, transportation, and community involvement. The program aims to give participants the tools they need to live independently and successfully, and to prevent or reduce their future involvement with social service and judicial systems. TurningPoint youth also receive counseling and guidance from therapists at our Family Counseling & Resource Center.
