About This Cause
HGI Counseling has more than 40 years of experience providing individual, couples, family and group therapy in the Greater Houston area. Training mental health and allied professionals is another of our highly valued services, and HGI is recognized internationally as a leader in the field. We are committed to expanding access to people who typically do not use counseling, by offering Walk-In Services (without an appointment) six days a week, tele- and online counseling, low and no-cost sessions, and therapists who speak various languages. HGI has partnered with many local organizations to provide services that they could not. These include other non-profits, schools, community centers, etc., and we are currently embedded as part of the school support services in HISD (Houston Independent School District), Alief ISD, LCISD (Lamar Consolidated Independent School District), Xavier Academy and AVANCE. HGI is well-known for helping "fill the gaps" in the community and has been called in to provide emotional support in crises such as the school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas, and after disasters, going back to Hurricane Katrina. Our flexibility, strong teamwork, responsiveness and collaborative approach makes us helpful community partners in times of need and high stress. Our network of alumni, who trained with HGI at one point or another, offer us the ability to scale up to respond to any size. The other thing HGI is well-known for is helping people despite their ability to pay. We do not turn anyone away. We should say that again, we do not turn anyone away, unless they are looking for a service we do not offer. We support our work through the generous donations of foundations, corporations and individuals who make it possible. We are grateful for all contributions, no matter the size, as they all make a difference.
