Mission Statement
The Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) is a community-based nonprofit coalition of 39 churches that team up to provide larger, stronger networks of help to those in need. Founded in 1980 as Houston’s first ecumenical coalition to address the problems of poverty, CCSC’s mission is to serve the poor, hungry, disabled and otherwise needy while respecting their religious, ethnic or cultural differences.
About This Cause
CCSC accomplishes its mission through seven programs focused in three areas: supplying people's everyday needs to ward off hunger, medical difficulties and potential homelessness; employment programs helping those who face employment barriers find gainful work; and children's services supplying essential school supplies and clothing, eye glasses, and holiday toys and books for children from low-income families who cannot provide these themselves. Below is a synopsis of how we helped last year: Basic Needs CCSC operates two basic needs programs providing community members in crisis immediate relief with every day necessities plus referrals to agencies committed to helping them break the cycle of poverty. Volunteers greet, interview, and determine client needs while respecting their dignity and life situation. Emergency Services-Central and Emergency Services-Southwest provided 25,211 nutritious food packages to families facing hunger and food insecurity, 927 households with rental or utility assistance, and 138 individuals with assistance for eyeglasses, dental services, or prescription medications. Employment CCSC invests in people who are motivated to build more self-sufficient lives through hard work. The three CCSC Employment programs served 567 unduplicated clients last year. JobNet prepares motivated job seekers through coaching and employment services. Martha’s Way and the Professional Home Caregiver Program cultivate talented entrepreneurs through hands-on vocational training and business skills development. Youth Services CCSC supports children and teens, one of the most vulnerable populations. Back To School promotes academic preparedness and served 6,802 students; Jingle Bell Express addresses play, literacy and hunger during the Christmas season and served 1,741 children; and the Louise J. Moran Vision Care Program provides vision-related services to 178 underprivileged students. In 2021, 1,198 volunteers contributed 22,011 hours across CCSC.
