Mission Statement
The mission of Girls Inc. of Metro Denver is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. The vision of GIMD is a world in which every girl values her whole self, discovers her inner strengths, and achieves her goals.
About This Cause
Founded in 1983, Girls Inc. of Metro Denver's (GIMD) mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Each year, GIMD impacts over 2,500 girls and youth who identify as female or gender non-conforming (herein girls) from first grade through college. GIMD has provided comprehensive, gender-specific programs to over 80,000 girls since 1983 and is an affiliate of the national Girls Incorporated organization - a recognized authority on girls' issues with a history dating back to 1864. GIMD is the only organization in Denver that provides comprehensive programming that is designed to address the specific needs of girls and youth who identify as female, within a pro-girl environment. In partnership with schools and community organizations and at its center on West Colfax, GIMD focuses on the development of the whole girl. Through GIMD programming, girls learn to value themselves, take risks, and discover and develop their inherent strengths. The combination of long-lasting mentoring relationships, a pro-girl environment, and research-based programming equips girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers, and grow up healthy, educated, and independent. Informed by girls and their families, GIMD also advocates for legislation and policies to increase opportunities and rights for all girls. GIMD uses a comprehensive, Whole Girl approach that equips girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers to grow up healthy, educated, and independent. GIMD provides programming in three key areas: Healthy Living (STRONG): Programming that provides girls with the knowledge, skills, and encouragement to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle. This includes mental health, social emotional learning, and substance misuse and abuse education. Academic Success (SMART): Programming that expands on and supports girls' school-based learning and engagement and includes connections to post-secondary education. Leadership and Self-Sufficiency (BOLD): Programming that builds the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that enable girls to function independently, develop agency and engage in leadership and advocacy. All GIMD program activities and experiences expand on and support girls' school-based learning and lead to 1) improved school engagement; 2) improved school performance; 3) setting personal, educational, and career goals; and 4) establishing educational aspirations beyond high school. GIMD's programs are delivered year-round, through on-site (center-based) programs, and off-site (school-based and outreach) programs offered both during the school day, outside of school time (OST), and summer, in partnership with schools and community organizations.
