Mission Statement
Amigos de las Americas offers volunteer abroad programs in Latin America focused on cultural immersion, the Spanish language experience, and youth leadership. AMIGOS believes in a world where each young person becomes a life-long catalyst for social change.
About This Cause
Amigos de las Américas inspires and builds young leaders through collaborative community development and immersion in cross-cultural experiences. Our summer programs offer high school students the opportunity to gain essential life experience, Spanish skills, and a network of friends by living and working in Latin American communities. For four to eight weeks, participants live with host families while working with local youth to implement community-based initiatives and facilitate workshops and classes. Unlike other guided trips, AMIGOS is truly immersive. Participants have the independence to shape their own experiences, while still being supported by our in-country staff and 24/7 On-Call health and safety support. More than 28,000 young people have participated in AMIGOS since 1960, and we take pride in collaborating with partner agencies trusted by local communities to ensure our programs are sustainable and effective. We are also committed to offering equitable and affordable experiences and do so through fundraising and financial assistance initiatives.
