Mission Statement
Lift Up Africa (LUA) collaborates with local partners to support programs that encourage self-reliance and provide solutions to disease, hunger, unemployment, and the lack of education. Our programs strive to use local labor and materials whenever possible and concentrate on basic needs such as clean water, health care, continual food supplies and dependable energy sources. LUA aims to assist with projects that lead to independence and community ownership; to provide a hand up and not a hand out.
About This Cause
Lift Up Africa (LUA) collaborates with local partners to support programs that encourage self-reliance and provide solutions to disease, hunger, unemployment, and the lack of education. Our programs strive to use local labor and materials whenever possible and concentrate on basic needs such as clean water, health care, continual food supplies and dependable energy sources. LUA aims to assist with projects that lead to independence and community ownership; to provide a hand up and not a hand out. Our History Starting From The Commitment Of Three Friends… In 2004, Bill Longbrake, Rick Levy and Sam Muinde formed LUA to support projects and charities with the aim of creating independence and community ownership to those in desperate need in Africa. LUA’s initial work started in Kenya with a Medical Centre in the rural community of Kaliluni near the town of Machakos. Now a well-established Washington base non-profit, LUA has addressed problems related to health, education and agricultural development in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Lesotho. Our Mission To work with organizations and African communities to support sustainable programs that lead to independence and communal ownership by addressing problems associated with disease, hunger, unemployment, and the lack of education.
