Mission Statement
Queensbury Theatre exists to serve the diverse community and culture of West Houston by providing exceptional theatrical entertainment and education while creating an environment where Houston artists and teachers can do meaningful work. The Tribble School is the education wing of Queensbury Theatre, and explores the heart of great music, theatre and dance. We exist to provide a positive and nurturing environment, where students of all ages and backgrounds can develop skills; tell meaningful stories; and connect – with self, with the truth of the moment, with their fellow artists, and with community.
About This Cause
Queensbury Theatre exists to serve the diverse community and culture of Houston by providing exceptional theatrical entertainment and education while creating an environment where Houston artists and teachers can do meaningful work. Located in CityCentre, Queensbury is one of the few professional performing arts theater venues in West Houston. Queensbury Theatre, formerly known as Country Playhouse, was founded as a 501c3 nonprofit organization in early 1956 and adopted its new name and its new education wing, the Tribble School for the Performing Arts, when the doors were opened to its new CityCentre venue in 2015. Over the past 65 years - moving from various community spaces in a barn, a backyard, and a church to a state of the art modern facility - the heart of the theatre has remained unchanged. Built on the belief that art can make a lasting difference in the lives of a community, and can be produced in quality and creative ways outside of the downtown district - Queensbury Theatre strives to offer a home away from home to Houston based actors, musicians, dancers, educators, audiences, playwrights, designers, students, technicians, and volunteers alike. In 2015, The Tribble School for the Performing Arts became the education wing of Queensbury Theatre in its new CityCentre home. TSPA exists to provide a place for students to grow - on and off stage. Instructors encourage students to develop skills in the disciplines of acting, voice and dance - providing each student with an individualized balance of nurturing and challenge. We hope to cultivate in each student a strong sense of self awareness, a respect for those around them, and an appreciation for the importance of the stories we tell on stage. We believe that, through theatre, students can cultivate: Self-Awareness & Awareness of Others Self Confidence & Empathy Creativity, Fearlessness of Thought, and an Abundance Mindset The Ability to Communicate & Listen Collaboration Critical Thinking about The Stories we tell on stage concerning - People, History, Philosophy, Beauty, Pain, Life, Being and Identity These are qualities that they can take into any field. Perhaps we will be working with a future star of film, dance, or Broadway. It’s just as likely we will be working with a future accountant, teacher, medical assistant, parent, or head of human resources. In each case, our goal is the same and centers on the balanced cultivation of each individual student.
