Mission Statement
To provide scholarships for minority students graduating from Plano Public Schools and promote community involvement and cultural enrichment.
About This Cause
The Plano Community Forum is a tax exempt organization established in 1981 by 4 ordinary community members who wanted to effect change in the Plano community. The purpose was to provide scholarships for students to pursue their education and to support the community in relevant ways through current needs. Recently, some of the Forum's involvement includes volunteering for PIT counts with the City of Plano, helping at the balloon festival, coordinating the citywide MLK program sponsored in part by the City of Plano, starting the MLK Power Leadership Breakfast now held at Collin College, hosting scholarship bootcamps. hosting the Business and Information Expo, starting the MLK parade in Plano, supporting local food pantries, sponsoring youth events at the Plano Boys and Girls Club, and sponsoring cultural events in connection with the Dallas Black Dance Theater to name a few. The Forum was instrumental in its early years in working with Plano ISD to diversify the counseling staff lead by a group of Forum members such as Dr. Myrtle Hightower, Don and Evelyn McKnight as well as Fred Moses which also led to the creation of what was previously known as the Diversity Advocacy Committee. When there are needs in the community the Plano Community Forum is often invited to participate as a source of resolution and/or support and it is our privilege to be able to serve the Plano Community in this way.
