About This Cause

Guardianship Services, Inc. is a nonprofit agency that protects older and other vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect and exploitation with services that range from financial literacy education to legal guardianship. These include: Financial Exploitation Prevention Center The Financial Exploitation Prevention Center fights fraud and financial exploitation of at-risk adults with education, the combined services of more than 10 partner agencies, and backing of the full force of the law. Money Management Money Management clients work with GSI on a voluntary basis and enjoy a less restrictive alternative to guardianship. Clients are low-income elderly and/or disabled individuals who have difficulty managing household finances due to a mental, visual or physical impairment. GSI often becomes the Representative Payee for these clients, and volunteers assist Money Management program clients as Monitors, Friendly Visitors, or Bill Payers. Guardianship GSI is appointed legal guardian by Tarrant County Probate Courts when a client lacks the capacity to make their own decisions and there is no family member or friend available or able to serve. Court-appointed guardians are surrogate decision makers for clients. They make housing decisions, assess health needs and consent to treatment, arrange for needed social services, report to Probate Courts concerning status of clients, monitor quality of services provided to clients, and make frequent and meaningful visits. Through these and other programs, GSI has served the Tarrant County, Texas community since 1985.
