Mission Statement
Greyhound Pets of America - Nashville (GPAN) works collaboratively with adopters and perspective adopters, with rescue, humane and other greyhound groups and the racing industry to find homes for retired racers. We are a chapter of Greyhound Pets of America, the nation’s largest single-breed adoption group. Each year, 19,000 greyhounds retire from U.S. tracks and are in need of homes. GPAN finds homes for 110+ retired racers each year.
About This Cause
Greyhound Pets of America Nashville is a chapter of GPA, the largest, national non-profit corporation, dedicated to finding loving responsible homes for Greyhounds that either fail to, or no longer qualify for the racetrack. We bring hounds in from all over the United States - Kansas, Florida, Arkansas, Alabama, Conneticut, Colorado - anywhere where there is a hound in need of an adoption group. At our Dog Drops we bathe the dogs and do an innitial inspection of their veterinary needs; before giving them to their foster families. All of our hounds are placed in foster homes to be prepared for their adoptions; this way, we are able to learn what type of home environment would be best for the hound. While in foster care our hounds learn proper house manners and are taken to community outreach events to show what Greyt pets they make. Any and all necessary veterinary care is done prior to adoption; every hound receives: Spay/Neuter, all required shots, testing for 4 common tick-borne diseases, a dental, and a registered AVID Microchip. Additionally, they are provided with a martingale collar and lead, muzzle, 6 months of Heartworm Preventative, one weeks supply of dogfood, and a GPA/Nashville identification tag at adoption. We use the Internet as a platform upon which to show our available hounds. Potential adopters always always know which dogs are available, at any time, because of our diligence in keeping this list up to date. Visit our site today! www.GPANashville.org Shortly after receipt of an application, a GPA/N Adoption Representative will make a follow up call, and the Home Visit is generally scheduled at this time. GPA/N requires the reading of "Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies" by Lee Livingood prior to adoption, as well as the Home Visit. After the Application is approved and the Home Visit is completed, a mutually acceptable time to transfer the hound is chosen. GPA/Nashville maintains a YahooGroups message board (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GPANashville/) in order to assist with any questions that may arise for a new adopter, as well as a Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/GPANashville/) Only through teamwork will 100% Post Racing adoption ever be attained.
